New Years

Fri Jan 2, 2009, 8:58 PM
I have a really, really good feeling about 2009. Maybe it's because it's going to be the year of the Ox, which is my year, or maybe it's because it's my first full year out of school, but I'm really expecting exciting things*. Stuff's gonna change! Life's gonna be awesome! Hang on world, here I come!

Resolutions:

#1: Make a budget and stick to it. I make enough money that I shouldn't be as poor as I am. Must find the holes in my life that are leaking money and plug them up.

#2: Finish reading all of the books on my bookshelf that I've started and never finished. Also, all the ones that I've bought and never started.

#3: Lose 15 pounds. This is third on the list because, let's be honest, it's not my top priority and I've been trying to do it for like, 5 consecutive years now. More important to be healthy/love self/etc. Hopefully all the time I spend reading and budgeting will be time not spent eating?

But yeah. 2009. Comin' at you. Tell your friends. It's going to be AWESOME.

*My resolutions don't reflect this excitingness. I'm not planning the excitingness. I'm expecting it to happen sortof spontaneously.

Holiday Time!

Fri Dec 5, 2008, 9:59 PM
Hey guys! I've doing Christmas cards this week, so if anybody wants a card from me send me your mailing address in a note!

MAN, I love Christmas. Not the shopping/commercially part, but the baking Christmas cookies for hours and hours and having friends over that you haven't seen in a long time and taking road trips and finding gifts for the people you care about and generally feeling all warm and fuzzy and peace on earth and kindness to your fellow man-y.
I actually bought a christmas tree, a real live* christmas tree, for my apartment. The people at the nursery strapped in onto the top of my car, and I had to lug it up into my apartment by myself, which made me feel like some Bridget-Jones-style heroine in a romantic comdy, and now it's got candy-canes and ribbon and stuff all over it. It's AWESOME.
Plus, I get 2 weeks off of work. SCORE. :)

*In past years, I've always had this 18 inch tall fiberoptic monstrosity. It was a sexy little tree. :)

You smell like tea....or cotton candy....

Thu Nov 13, 2008, 7:29 PM
What is it with the way fandom seems to LOVE picking scents for different characters, and often with startling consistancy, even when there's no precedent in canon?
For example, I keep reading Kenshin stuff where he smells like ginger. Who decided this? And when? Did I miss something in canon?

Also, why do all the girls smell like lavender, like ALL THE TIME? Is this just everyone's favorite default feminine scent? WHy can't I smell like lavender? Nomatter how much lavender soap I use, I always smell like a)stinky b)deodorant or c) the perfume I'm wearing*.

It doesn't even bother me...okay, well most of the time it doesn't bother me, although CERTAIN characters who smell like CERTAIN completely incompatible florals I may find slightly irritating,** but in general I'm cool with it. But still...it's a quandry.

If I was a fandom character, I wonder what I'd smell like....what would YOU smell like? Respond, if you feel so inclined....

*In that order, depending on how much time I spent getting ready that morning

**Seriously, guys, freesia and lavender*** smell NOTHING alike.
***See? Freaking Lavender!

Cartoons

Fri Jun 20, 2008, 9:26 PM
So there's this lj community featured on the main page this week (or whatever) that has all of these nostalgic cartoon clips...so I figured I'd post a couple of my favorites. These are a bit obscure, but they're those shows that I almost didn't believe I'd seen until I found them online.

CRO
[link]
It should be noted that I feel a certain fondness for Cro which I'm sure has nothing to do with his horrible shaggy red mullet, which may or may not remind me of another cartoon with whom I've been slightly obsessed recently. Also, I'm bothered that this show teaches about simple mechanics (like levers) and references theories from Einstein but overlooks the simple fact that a mammoth cannot go into cryogenic stasis and be thawed out and brought back to life years later*. What were we teaching our kids in the 80s?

Noozles
[link]
I remembered nothing about this show but "Koalas" for the longest time. I was sure I made it up.

Little Prince
[link]

Legend of Zelda
[link]
Haha, my brother and I used to say "Excuuuuse me, Princess!" and "Darn it, Sprite!" to each other all the time.** Oh, Legend of Zelda.

*It's okay that this happens in Avatar. That's magic.
**We were cool kids
